VENTILATION

Action Target is able to provide essential ventilation system for both new range installations and existing ranges to meet and exceed environmental standards. We offer a complete package of controls, traps, targets, air filtration, and maintenance to ensure that your employees and customers are protected from the health concerns associated with lead exposure and other air-borne toxins found in indoor ranges. Due to our innovative designs, all of our ventilation systems exceed NIOSH, EPA, and OSHA air quality standards, and are fully customizeable to your particular range installation.

VENTILATION FILTERS

Action Target has been building shooting ranges since 1986 and has learned a thing or two about range ventilation. There are many imitators, but only Action Target has the knowledge to keep shooting ranges safe and clean both inside and out. One of the most important aspects of keeping ranges clean is filtration. Action Target offers two filtration configurations that adapt to the needs of any shooting range.

BAG FILTRATION
Action Target recommends combining a 22″–30″ bag filter and a 12″ HEPA filter to stop 99.97% of particles from entering the atmosphere. The bag filter captures the majority of particles and is longer lasting than a prefilter and mid-filter combination. This protects the HEPA filter from wear and helps it last longer. The HEPA filter is certified to exceed local and federal regulations. Bag filters offer many advantages over a prefilter/mid filter combination.

ºRequire less frequent replacement due to more surface area that holds more particles
ºRequire less storage space and are easier to move to the facility roof
ºEasier to replace
ºLess hazardous waste generated by reducing the number of filters needed

TRIPLE FILTRATION
The traditional filtration method combines a standard 4″ prefilter, a 12″ mid-filter, and a 12″ HEPA filter to stop 99.97% of particles from entering the atmosphere or recirculating back into occupied range areas. The first two filters capture the majority of particles, protecting the HEPA filter from wear and helping it last longer. The HEPA filter is certified to exceed local and federal regulations.

BAG FILTERS

Bag filters placed before the HEPA filter take pressure off the HEPA filter by collecting the majority of particles exhausted from the range. Bag filters are longer lasting and have lower through-life costs than a combination of a prefilter and mid filter. Action Target offers a variety of Total Filtration Services filters that are ideal for shooting range use. Our ventilation experts will work with you to identify the best option for your range based on volume, climate, and other factors.

LOWER THROUGH-LIFE COST

Better quality filters may require a higher initial purchase cost, however they end up saving in through-life cost. Better filters perform better over longer periods of time which requires less frequent replacement, reducing the cost of new filters and replacement and disposal fees. They also are more energy efficient, particularly over weeks of use. Our ventilation experts will work with you to determine the perfect filter that performs best in your region and provides you the best through-life cost.

HEPA FILTERS

Quality HEPA filters are necessary to properly clean air and protect the ceiling, walls, and area surrounding a shooting range from contamination. Action Target HEPA filters provide the perfect balance of cost, efficiency, and effectiveness in shooting range use.

FILTER DISPOSAL

Action Target makes it easy to dispose of your contaminated filters and PPE. One of the challenges that shooting ranges face is how to take care of contaminated filters. Shooting ranges are responsible for all the waste it generates including verifying that it is properly disposed of or recycled. Hazardous waste collection and disposal are strictly governed through EPA and DOT regulations and Noncompliance could result in significant penalties, potentially even criminal. A waste generator’s liability never goes away. Action Target will pick up and recycle HVAC and DCU filters for members of the Metals & Range Supplies Program. Key Facts About Filters
Every range is responsible for determining that their waste is hazardous. The industry has found that used filters are contaminated with lead and are considered hazardous. Here are some things to remember about your filters.

º Knowing their waste is hazardous, they are considered a hazardous waste generator. They must, by EPA (state and federal) law, manifest the waste, and are directly responsible for the appropriate handling, transportation and disposal of waste at a RCRA approved site. There are additional compliance requirements based on how much waste a site generates on a monthly basis.
º A typical range generates approximately 20-40 cubic yards of hazardous waste a year.
º Most range operators think they are disposing of waste properly, but if the hazardous waste disposal company is incorrectly disposing of the waste the responsibility falls on the range.
º According to a NSSF compliance officer, ranges spend $20-30K/year for disposal if they are handling their waste legally.

Approved, Reliable Disposal
Action Target uses approved disposal procedures to help ranges avoid fines from government agencies and have confidence that their filters are being handled appropriately.

º RCRA (Resource Conservation and Conservation Act) approved
º OSHA and EPA compliant
º We will pick up the filters from your range within two weeks of the pickup request.
º We provide documentation that the filters will be properly disposed, protecting you from potential fines.

Low Cost Disposal
Disposal of contaminated filters can be very expensive. Action Target’s method keeps the cost of disposal lower and passes the savings on to you.

º We’ve negotiated rates to keep the cost of filter disposal lower than doing it yourself.
º You can use your metals credits to cover the cost of filter disposal.

RECIRCULATING VENTILATION SYSTEM

A recirculating ventilation system reuses air from the range after filtering to ensure that reintroduced air is clean. Because the system uses air that is already cooled or heated, these systems require less energy to function. Recirculating systems can be set up to remove humidity from the range. Heating and mechanical cooling systems are available.

Clean

Range air is cleaned from lead dust before being reintroduced to the range or released back into the atmosphere.

Air Flow

Downrange air flow keeps the range comfortable by moving particulates away from the shooter’s respiratory zone.

Climate Control

Systems adapt to changing environmental conditions to maintain required air speed and pressure conditions.

CLEAN AND EFFICIENT SHOOTING RANGE VENTILATION

1. SYSTEM CONTROL
Available digital and analog systems give you control over the ventilation system and provide remote access for service and maintenance.

2. LAMINAR DIFFUSION
Clean air is introduced into the range behind the shooting line. A radial diffuser ensures the air is evenly distributed.

3. AIR FLOW
Negative air pressure draws hazardous dust safely away from the shooter toward the bullet trap at a rate of 75 feet per minute, exceeding minimum NIOSH standards. It then enters an advanced filtration system for a final cleaning process.

4. RANGE EXHAUST FAN
The range exhaust fan (REF) filters contaminated air to keep the area around the range clean, exceeding OSHA, EPA, and NIOSH requirements. Recirculating systems exhaust about 30% of the air to maintain the majority air that has already been cooled or heated, improving energy efficiency.

5. MAKE UP AIR UNIT
The make up air unit (MAU) draws and filters air from the atmosphere and introduces it into the range. About 20% of the total air used by the ventilation system is drawn in through the MAU.

ADVANCED SYSTEM CONTROL

Action Target ventilation systems are equipped with a powerful system control that provides everything necessary to keep the system running at peak condition. The digital touch screen provides local and remote access to system status, filter status, temperature control, system warnings, alarms, and more.

RELIABLE FILTRATION

Action Target ventilation systems provide the best filtration on the market, keeping the inside and outside the shooting range clean and safe. When used properly, our HEPA filters provide 99.97% efficiency and exceed OSHA, EPA, and NIOSH requirements. Recirculating systems can be set up to use a combination of a prefilter, mid-filter, and HEPA filter or a bag filter and HEPA filter. Learn More>

PURGE VENTILATION SYSTEM

A purge system draws air from the atmosphere, introduces it into the range, filters the air, and then releases cleaned air back into the atmosphere. Purge systems use prefilters that are changed monthly and HEPA filters that are changed every 2,400 hours.
